Aftercare

  • saniderm

Leave your Saniderm on overnight and ideally for up to 4 days. It is normal and okay for the excess blood, ink, and plasma to create an “ink sack” inside the Saniderm barrier. However, if the fluids start to leak out the sides of the Saniderm, remove the Saniderm and continue regular aftercare. A good rule of thumb is that if anything is coming out, that means bacteria can enter and potentially cause infection.

When you are ready to remove the Saniderm, carefully peel off the bandage. I recommend doing so in the shower under warm, running water. Wash your new tattoo with antibacterial soap (like Dial Gold) and let air dry or pat dry with a clean paper towel. Then lightly moisturize with a non-scented lotion. I recommend Lubriderm. Once the Saniderm is off, resume regular aftercare.

  • regular aftercare

Remove the bandage after a couple of hours. Do not re-wrap your tattoo. Wash your tattoo 3 times daily (morning, afternoon, and night) with water and antibacterial soap. Rinse your tattoo and pat dry with a clean paper towel. Then, lightly moisturize with a non-scented lotion, like Lubriderm.

Please do not soak your tattoo until it is fully healed. Showering is fine and important, but bathtubs, oceans, and pools can harbor bacteria that may find its way into your healing tattoo and cause infection. Do not pick, itch, or scratch your tattoo while it is healing. Only touch your healing tattoo with clean hands while you are cleaning and moisturizing your tattoo. Do not let pets, children, or anything touch your healing tattoo!
